Literature, Philosophy, Nihilism and Rh/CeO2 by means of EXAFS and FTIR is discussed in relation with the effect of coadsorbates as an important aspect of catalysis, where new reaction paths are opened by coadsorbates or adjacent active sites.

Applications of Synchrotron Radiation in Catalysisc studies are first discussed and the nature of the interactions between X-rays and matter reviewed. A number of applications are then described, including structural characterisation of metal containing zeolite and supported catalysts, alloying, and modification of catalyst structure by reaction.
