Photon Strength Functionse estimate of the strength function at 5 to 7 MeV, although there are some residual nuclear structure effects in some nuclei. The data on Ml indicate the presence of a Ml GDR at ~8 MeV with a width of ~5 MeV.

Localized Dipole and Quadrupole Radiation Strengths in 208Pb state. The (n, γ) and (γ,n) reaction studies have contributed significantly in determining the strengths in the 7.37–10.2 MeV region. Theoretical calculations of these strengths are also briefly discussed.

Locating Giant Resonances with Photoneutronsthe nuclear mass regions of 120, 140 and 208 will be discussed in detail. New very high resolution photoneutron studies of .Pb will be presented. Applications of the photoneutron polarization method to the .Pb(γ,n.) .Pb and .Sn(γ,n.) .Sn reactions will be reviewed.

Tests of Quantum Electrodynamics with Neutron Capture Gamma-Raysn emission and double e.e.-pair production are discussed. The emphasis is on the theoretical significance of the tests and the interrelations among them, as well as their significance with respect to other well-known tests of quantum electrodynamics.

Investigating Nuclear Structure with the (n,γ) ReactionFollowing a historical introduction, laboratories presently working in (n,γ) studies and their instrumentation are discussed. The main advantages of the (n,γ) reaction are presented. Examples of present research and achievements in (n,γ) spectroscopy are described. An outlook for future (n,γ) research and future instrumentation is given.

N-P Capture and the Photo-Disintegration of the DeuteronRecent experiments on n-p radiative capture at thermal energies, including the study of double-photon decay, and on the photo-disintegration of the deuteron are discussed. Comparisons between the results and contemporary theories are made whenever they are meaningful. Suggestions for some necessary experiments for the future are made.
