Molecular Determinants of Damage Recognition by Mammalian Nucleotide Excision Repair,re 7.1, this hypothesis was prompted by the observation that many base lesions alter the helical parameters of DNA by inducing kinks,. bends. or localized unwinding,. suggesting that damage-induced conformational distortion may constitute an important determinant of recognition by the nucleotide excision repair system.
