The Social Organization of Research Programs in Mathematical Sciences Educationrn most of their mathematics in school classrooms, I believe the primary mission of a program of research should be to identify the major components of classrooms that promote mathematical understanding and to clarify some of the organizational features that contribute to or hinder the operation of such classrooms.
