What is meant by formal semantic properties will be explained in section 2; in the present section a characterization in syntactic terms is given of the phenomena that go by the name of mass terms.

I have little to say about many of the issues that have been raised (e.g., ‘how’ mass terms ‘divide their reference’), but I will here comment briefly on four issues that are particularly relevant to the theory proposed in MT & AT.
