描述In 1979 the first InternationalSymposium on Low CycleFatigue and Elasto-Plastic Behaviour of Materials was held in Stuttgart, FRG. Since then research in low cycle fatigue has proceeded rapidly. The vital interest of engineers and researchers in communicating the rapid advances in the ongoing research in low cycle fatigue has encouraged me to initiate again the Second International Conference which was held in Munich, FRG, 7-11 September 1987. Failure in low cycle fatigue represents a serious problem in the design and opera- tion of highly stressed structures. Under complex loading and environmental cir- cumstances, especially for high temperature services, reliable life prediction can not be expected without detailed consideration of the failure mechanism and with- out extensive use of mechanistic approaches. The purpose of this conference was to provide a forum to discuss the advances in recent research in the field of low cycle fatigue. The conference was intended to help to further bridge the gap between those who are involved in basic research, and the engineers who have to perform the design of highly stressed structural components.

Dislocation Structure Changes in Ferritic-Pearlitic Steels Caused by Low-Cycle Fatigue at Elevated Tas examined by testing the dislocation structures in the direct proximity of the lateral surface of samples, Influence of the elevated temperature on the development of dislocation structures was observed/ particularly, on the chord size of dislocation cells and dislocation density in the cell walls.

Predictive Analysis of Low Cycle Fatigue of Tool Steel in Warm Working Conditionstrength is observed in 650°C. Heating and cooling devices adequate for controlling working temperature of tool are very important to obtain the highest low cycle fatigue resistance of tool steel. SEM observations on the fracture surfaces of specimens reveal that the fracture proceeds by complex fracture mode.

Relationships Between Fatigue Strength and Microstructure of 55SiMnVB Steelrite or granular bainite. Also, once the steel contains ferrite and granular bainite regardless of their amount, its fatigue strength is always reduced. However, lower bainite did not influence the strength level of steel much, but markedly increased the fatigue life. The mechanism of fatigue fracture of the steel is also discussed.

Low-Cycle Fatigue Investigations on Al-Mg-Si-1 Alloys of Different Grain Sizes = 0.1 on notched specimens in the high-cycle fatigue range. In plastic strain controlled fatigue tests, the fine grained material suffered more rapid crack initiation than in the high cycle regime due to the extraordinarily high notch sensitivity. The ultimate lifetime of these materials is shorter than that of coarse grained ones.
