描述.This book is devoted to the issue of how we can learn to live together in the face of division and conflict. It is dedicated to the life and work of a remarkable human being, Dr Epimenidis Haidemenakis, scientist, statesman, visionary leader, President Emeritus of the International S.T.E.P.S. Foundation and founding father of The Olympiads of the Mind (OM). The monograph consists of a collection of papers presented at the 8.th. and 9.th. Olympiads of the Mind held in Washington, DC and Chania, Crete respectively. Distinguished international scholars, government and corporate representatives, leading researchers and academics from multiple disciplines and Nobel Laureates Leon Lederman (Physics, 1988), Martin Perl (Physics, 1995) and Yuan T. Lee (Chemistry, 1986) address a broad range of issues all with the aim of improving the human condition and achieving cooperation among the people of the world. The Human Group Instinct as Basis of Culture and Atrocitiesd down. There had been fire prevention laws, but they had not been observed properly, there had been fire pumps, but they couldn’t reach the fire in time, there had been plans of action, but they were not enacted forcefully.

Systems of the Brain Responsible for the Herd Mentality and the Acceptability of Diversity May Deteristic of each individual. This has significant implications for the enhancement of plasticity of the brain and for reduction of the herd mentality, and for the future of the human species in respect to the acceptance of diversity, and may be the beginning of the way in which we can All Live Together.

Brain Research: Improving Social Harmony on Reward, Trust, and Impulse Controlals) nor on the large scale (nations) humans manage harmonious interactions. Are we made to quarrel and to kill each other usually in affectively stressing situations leading to loss of control? Might brain research uncover some inbuilt mechanisms switching us from caring fathers or mothers to murderous fools?

The Brain as a Learner/Inquirer/Creator: Some Implications of Its Organization for Individual and Socts of research on the brain that seem to me to have this character, suggesting that we can and should think of ourselves, individually and collectively, as active creators and revisers of meaning, for ourselves and for the world we find ourselves in. I will conclude with several social policy recommendations that follow from this perspective.

Global Response to Global ProblemIn 1982 when the Erice Statement was written to address the real danger of nuclear war, the fear was that technology would be used not by the culture of love, but the culture of hatred to kill and destroy. These dangers of mass destructions are still very much with us today with more countries and groups trying to acquire nuclear weapons.
