The Future of Formal Thought Research: The Study of Analogy and Metaphorxample, Brainerd, 1975; Bynum, Thomas, & Weitz, 1972; Ennis, 1975a,b). Some of the confusion in this area may be attributed to misinterpretations of the aim of Piaget’s structuralism: to study children and adolescents not so much as logicians, but as scientists who invent and construct their own understandings (Falmagne, 1975; Stone, 1976).

The Function of Reading in the Transition to Concrete and Formal Operationsired in response to concrete-verbal stimuli; then in situations in which these operations are required in reading. The study was exploratory.
