描述.High-Performance Networks for Multimedia Applications.presents the latest research on the services and protocols fornetworks providing the communication support for distributedmultimedia applications. .The need for end-to-end QoS for these multimedia applications israising the stakes for a powerful shaping and scheduling in thenetwork adapter. It is also creating a need for new services at theATM layer, CBR and VBR being augmented by UBR, ABR and GFR which haveto be evaluated in the TCP/IP environment of today and tomorrow. .With the pressure of all the new technologies available today, thebackbone architecture needs to be revisited and the success of theTCP/IP must not eliminate the possibility of adding a native ATMaccess to it. .Most of the research in communication services such as IntServ,DiffServ and Native ATM is driven by the requirements of multimediasystems and this book illustrates the new emphasis by bringingtelecommunication and computer communication experts together withapplication designers. This is particularly true for the securityissues also addressed here. .Last but not least, modeling techniques and mathematical models areessential to assess the performance of
