High Temperature Superconducting Cables, The motivation for this development in the 1970s and 1980s was the increasing need for transmission systems with high rated power. Later on the increasing environmental concern about the overhead lines especially in urban areas made it desirable to find solutions where cables could transfer large amounts of power.
