Classifying Torque, Normal Force and Direction Using Monkey Afferent Nerve Spike Ratesmeters; namely, background normal force, torque magnitude and direction. Despite the potentially confounding interactions between stimulus parameters, classification accuracy was very high and was improved even further by selecting subsets of best performing afferents.

The Shape-Weight Illusionjects, while other subjects perceived the sphere as being lighter. These results indicate that the influence of shape on haptic perception of weight is not mediated only by the perceived volume, as would be predicted from previous studies, but that some subject dependent factors are involved.
