A Post-Industrial Proletariat? Class, Change and Identity,neo-proletariat’, a group something akin to the popularly-conceived ‘underclass’. In the 1990s, as we saw in Chapter 2, some postmodernists have gone further and suggest that classes are disappearing altogether, as old collectivities are destroyed by processes of economic and cultural change.

Class, Gender and Power,inority of women to achieve positional power. Processes of change have also undermined some of the traditional bases of men’s technical dominance, as new technologies replace old manual skills and a new stress is given to skills of ‘people-management’ and communication which are seen as ‘natural’ feminine attributes.
