New Frontiers in Translation Studies of the stomodeal ectoderm, Rathke’s pouch, which is the roof of the stomodeum or primitive buccal cavity. The neurohypophysis originates in the floor of the diencephalon. It retains a permanent connection with the brain via the infundibular stalk. Pearse and Takor have proposed that the neuroendocrine cells of the bronchopulmonary tract could be derived from neuroendocrine programmed ectoblasts (30) but experimental proof to support this hypothesis has not been presented.
