Bapi Chakraborty,Yashajeet Chowdhury develops from the coelomic epithelium and is of mesodermal origin, since it develops from the mesenchyme adjacent to the urogenital ridge (81,87,111). The medulla is of neuroectodermal origin and arises from the neural crest. The adrenal medulla, but not the cortex, is a member of the diffuse neuroendocrine system (DNS).

The paraganglionic tissues regress during growth, leaving only residual nests of cells in many sites in adults. These residual nests may give rise to paragangliomas (15,20,44).
