Bacterial Mutation Tests on CDA and DAB Using , TA1538 and three Types of S9 ActivationThe CDA/DAB pair of compounds was tested with TA1538 and three types of S9 activation (mouse uninduced, rat uninduced and Aroclor-induced rat). No positive results were recorded with direct incorporation using the Ames plate test. A positive result was found with DAB and Aroclor-induced rat S9 with 60 min preincubation.

Studies on the Metabolic Activation of Benzidine and its Terphenyl Derivative to Mutagens in the SalThe activation of benzidine (BZD) and 4,4″-diaminoterphenyl (DAT) to mutagens in the Ames Salmonella plate incorporation test was investigated. Uninduced and Aroclor-induced rat liver S9 and chicken liver S9 supplied by UKEMS were used at three different concentrations in the assay with . TA1538 as the tester strain.

Comparative Mutagenic Activity on , TA1538 of Benzidine and its Terphenyl Analogue 4,4″-Diaminoterphvating benzidine (BZD) or 4,4″-diaminoterphenyl (DAT): 30% S9s were more efficient than 10% or 4% S9s. DAT was more mutagenic than BZD up to 333 μg per plate and thereafter BZD was more active than DAT, at which point DAT had become insoluble in the assay system.

A Comparison of the Mutagenicity of Benzidine and 4,4″-Diaminoterphenyl with Uninduced Mouse and Ratereas 4,4″-diaminoterphenyl (DAT) induces Zymbal’s gland tumours. Evidence from bacterial mutagenicity studies (Garner .. 1975; Morton .., 1979) and from DNA binding studies (Kennelly .., 1984a) suggests that for BZD the ultimate carcinogenic moiety is not BZD itself but an activated form of the compound after metabolism.
