描述Clusters and superclusters of galaxies are the largest objectsin the Universe. They have been the subject of intense observationalstudies at a variety of wavelengths, from radio to X-ray which hasprovoked much theoretical debate and advanced our understanding of therecent evolution of the large-scale structure of the Universe. Thecurrent status of the subject is reviewed in this volume by activeresearchers who lectured at a NATO Advanced Study Institute held inCambridge, England in July 1991. .Much of the material is presented in a pedagogical manner and willappeal to scientists, astronomers and graduate students interested inextragalactic astronomy. .

Cooling Flows in Clusters of Galaxies,ations of the ionization state of the optical nebulosity and measurements of Faraday rotation and depolarization of radio lobes show that many luminous radio-loud objects are surrounded by massive cooling flows.
