描述 | Heterogeneous catalysis provides the backbone of the world‘schemical and oil industries. The innate complexity of practicalcatalytic systems suggests that useful progress should be achievableby investigating key aspects of catalysis by experimental studies onidealised model systems. Thin films and supported clusters are twopromising types of model system that can be used for this purpose, since they mimic important aspects of the properties of practicaldispersed catalysts. Similarly, appropriate theoretical studies ofchemisorption and surface reaction clusters or extended slab systemscan provide valuable information on the factors that underlie bondingand catalytic activity. This volume describes such experimental andtheoretical approaches to the surface chemistry and catalyticbehaviour of metals, metal oxides and metal/metal oxide systems. .An introduction to the principles and main themes of heterogeneouscatalysis is followed by detailed accounts of the application ofmodern experimental and theoretical techniques to fundamentalproblems. The application of advanced experimental methods iscomplemented by a full description of theoretical procedures, including Hartree-Fock, density fu |
