Introduction,rnout was overlooked. There had always been contention about what should be included in social work education, so addressing the possibility of burnout starting during the social work field experience, and the possibility of preventing it, had rarely been considered. This is finally changing.

Role Ambiguity in Social Workers,periences. According to role theory, role ambiguity triggers the worker to be unhappy with their role, subsequently, the worker feels apprehension, distorts reality, works less efficiently, and can manifest the defining symptoms of burnout. Proactively addressing role ambiguity can help workers avoid burnout.

Role Ambiguity in Social Work Students,l work field interns may feel stress when their beliefs and their field placements are incompatible. The mismatch between field placement and classroom learning can produce difficulties in role clarity manifested as role ambiguity. Research indicates that role ambiguity is a statistically significant factor in student burnout.

Burnout in Social Workers,nment factors such as role issues, and type of client population assigned. Addressing burnout while students are preprofessionals in field placement may prepare them to actively cope with the factors that could lead to burnout when they practice in their profession.
