Few crops are being produced under such a wide range ofenvironmental and management stresses as fodder crops. Improvedadaptation of fodder crops to marginal conditions is crucial indeveloping sustainable, low-input agricultural systems. The book isunique in demonstrating the large diversity both in crops andenvironmental stresses that confront the forage breeders. Both generaland specific aspects of adaptation to marginal growing conditions arepresented, ranging from problems caused by snow and ice in theSubarctic regions of Europe to the severe drought problems in theMediterranean regions. .For everyone involved in studies of adaptation and breeding ofperennial plants for marginal conditions or stress environments. .

Genetic Resources of oil and Fodder Plants in the Genebank Station Malchow/Poel it belongs to the Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) Gatersleben. The establishment of the collection began in the early 1970s on the basis of breeding activities. The material includes wild species and landraces, as well as breeders lines and cultivars, both from Germany and abroad.

https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-658-13211-8Thee field trials completed at Radzików in Central Poland showed that thuringian mallow would be a crop suitable for various utilization. It produces plants up to 1500 mm high, well branched and persistant. Each flower of mallow produces seeds giving 44 g seeds per plant. The yield of dry matter 27 t and seed yield 1 t per 1 ha were achieved.
