Neuronal Protection Against Oxidative Damage species, oxidative damage may occur. Such damage may be counteracted by superoxide dismutases, glutathione peroxidase, and metallothioneins. Antioxidant protectors can be generated by ascorbic acid and a-tocopherol. Oxidative mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases are exemplified by Alzheimer’s disesase.
