Destruction, Neglect and Appropriation: The Demise of Muslim Shrinesresulted in the destruction of some Muslim shrines, the abandonment and neglect of many more and the appropriation of others. Whilst some of the damage to tombs might be a direct result of Israeli actions, it is suggested that a large number of Muslim shrines have suffered because of a decline in Sufism and the growth of fundamentalist Islam.
