A second commercial biooxidation process, which employs BacTech technology, using thermophilic iron-oxidizing bacteria (see chapter 4), is in operation at the Youanmi Mine, Australia.. Both the BIOX. and BacTech processes are carried out in highly aerated stirred tank reactors.
