Potential Role of Mast Cell Proteases in Asthma,arks of asthma. Because known mast cell mediators may not explain adequately the various manifestations of asthma, the search continues! I will present evidence that the mast cell enzymes, tryptase and chymase, have potent effects on appropriate airway cells, suggesting that they may play key roles in the pathophysiology of asthma.
