Composition and Structure of VegetationIn order to have data according to which vegetation can be classified in a classification system and be delineated on photographs and in the field, vegetation has to be analysed. The basis for that analysis is vegetation morphology.

Patterns, Colors and SymbolsThe method of presenting vegetation and its units and divisions is an important feature of the vegetation map because the clarity and legibility of the map depend on it. The primary purpose for using black-and-white patterns or color is, of course, to distinguish between areas of different types of vegetation.

The Nature of Vegetation vegetable life’. Such definitions are not useful in any scientific discussion of vegetation mapping. Indeed, the mapper must know exactly what the term means because only then can he use and apply it correctly, meaningfully, and to best advantage.

The Classification of Vegetationfication which a particular author happens to choose. This leads to the conclusion that the relation between classifying and mapping vegetation is that of a sequence in which the first item (classification) is arrived at more or less arbitrarily, whereas the second item (vegetation map) expresses the first one cartographically.
