Wim G. Beeftink, a full-blooded ‘Zeeuw’ (i.e. born in the province of Zeeland). However after a short stay in Den Haag, the family moved to Middelburg (Zeeland) in 1931. This makes Wim at least one who is Zeeland-bred, in the province he loves so much.

Preliminary investigations on the texture of high arctic tundra vegetation,land (Bj?rn?ya). Most of the time (three weeks) was spent at thse station of the Netherlands Foundation for Arctic Biological Research at Kapp Lee (NW coast of Edge?ya). I wish to thank this Foundation, the Beyerinck Popping Foundation and the Biological Subfaculty of the University of Utrecht for their grants.

Growth and interactions of salt-marsh species under different flooding regimes,ter during the tidal cycle. The precise nature of salt-marsh vegetation zonation has been described and analysed comprehensively (cf. Ranwell 1972; Chapman 1974; Beeftink 1977a). Recently Rozema .. (1985b) stated seawater salinity to be the master factor governing saltmarsh zonation and succession. They regarded inundation of secondary importance.

Salt marsh communities of three West Frisian Islands, with some notes on their long-term successionThe salt marsh communities of three West Frisian islands were studied from 1937–1946, but as yet the results have only been published in summaries (Westhoff 1947, Beeftink 1965, Dijkema amp; Wolff 1983). Fully updated vegetation tables are presented now and discussed. The successional changes from 1946 onwards are briefly discussed.
