描述 | Postal service has received considerably less attention in theeconomics literature than traditional public utilities. Postal serviceis facing some very important challenges arising out of theincreasingly high-tech nature of postal service, the entry ofcompetition into the business, and new attitudes on the part ofgovernment to postal service. In the United Kingdom and Germany theincreased interest in privatization and recognition of the benefits ofcompetition are likely to have an impact on postal service. Thesechallenges mean that postal managers must learn new ways of doingbusiness, not just in successfully introducing new hardware and in newinternal operating procedures, but also in the development of newpricing and costing methodologies and in the introduction of newmanagement information systems. .In order to deal with these new developments managers need a solidfoundation in applied microeconomic theory as it relates to postalservice. This book encompasses the theoretical foundation for postalpolicy, particularly with regard to pricing, service quality, andcompetitive issues. . |
