描述Oversampling techniques based on sigma-delta modulation arewidely used to implement the analog/digital interfaces in CMOS VLSItechnologies. This approach is relatively insensitive to imperfectionsin the manufacturing process and offers numerous advantages for therealization of high-resolution analog-to-digital (A/D) converters inthe low-voltage environment that is increasingly demanded by advancedVLSI technologies and by portable electronic systems. In .The Designof. .Low-Voltage, Low-Power Sigma-Delta Modulators., an analysisof power dissipation in sigma-delta modulators is presented, and alow-voltage implementation of a digital-audio performance A/Dconverter based on the results of this analysis is described. .Although significant power savings can typically be achieved indigital circuits by reducing the power supply voltage, the powerdissipation in analog circuits actually tends to increase withdecreasing supply voltages. Oversampling architectures are apotentially power-efficient means of implementing high-resolution A/Dconverters because they reduce the number and complexity of the analogcircuits in comparison with Nyquist-rate converters.
