The Divergence of the Casimir StressWe examine the local behaviour of the regularised Casimir stress tensor for an inhomogeneous dielectric medium. It is shown that the expression for the stress tensor is not finite anywhere within the medium, whatever the temporal dispersion or index profile. The standard regularisation does not remove the divergence.
