描述As the technology of Supercomputing processes, methodologies for approaching problems have also been developed. The main object of this symposium was the interdisciplinary participation of experts in related fields and passionate discussion to work toward the solution of problems. An executive committee especially arranged for this symposium selected speakers and other participants who submitted papers which are included in this volume. Also included are selected extracts from the two sessions of panel discussion, the "Needs and Seeds of Supercomputing", and "The Future of Supercomputing", which arose during a wide-ranging exchange of viewpoints.

Supercomputing and AlgorithmsSupercomputing will be and already is based on parallel vector processing. Thanks to the development of hardware and novel architectures, people expect 1 TFLOPS machines will be available in the 1990s. However, more important is the software.

Panel Discussion 1: Questions and Answers: Dr. Tomita discussed the future of supercomputer hardware in his talk. Given this, I wonder if you have any conceptions as to how software or languages should be developed around hardware. In other words, do you think anything needs to be done for the development of languages specific for hardware?
