Stellar Populations of Bulges and Disks: New Insights from Near-IR Coloursept for galaxies with special orientations. In this paper we give some results of one of the first studies of galactic bulges and disks in various optical and near-infrared bands, and its implications for the stellar populations of spirals.

How Much Do Young Stars Contribute to the K-band Light?galaxies are shown to illustrate the role of different star formation histories. Finally, the contribution of young stars to the infrared light is discussed for very simple models of galactic evolution.

The Brightest Stars in the Galactic Bulged-luminosity and period-colour relationships. Figures are given for the maximum bolometric and K luminosity of Miras in the Bulge. The period-colour relations differ in different metallicity environments. Although the same may be true of period-luminosity relations, current evidence is inconclusive on this point.

Imaging of Local Group Bulge Populations in the Near Infrarednumbers of long period Miras, which should in principle be younger objects. There is likely to be a wide range in the ages of bulge populations; we point out the case of M33 where there is almost certainly a large age range in the populations of the central 100 pc.
