Multi-Focus Structure and Moving Nonlinear Foci: Adequate Models of Self-Focusing of Laser Beams in udies of femtosecond self-focusing in air are discussed. It is concluded that the main features of MFS-MNLF models can be applied to beam filamentation in different nonlinear media and over a wide range of pulse durations, including ultra-short pulses. Future directions for the study of femtosecond self-focusing in air are suggested.

Beam Shaping and Suppression of Self-focusing in High-Peak-Power Nd:Glass Laser Systemser-Gaussian laser beams for suppressing diffraction ripples on the beam profile and their self-focusing are presented. A brief outline of self-focusing as the primary nonlinear optical process limiting the brightness of Nd:glass laser installations is given. Methods for self-focusing suppression are presented.
