Transport and distribution of sediments along the Ligurian coastsediment transport is influenced by the presence of a submarine canyon; material coming from the east, following the Ligurian current, is partially diverted offshore along the canyon axis. The coastline pattern, some harbor artifacts, and the peculiar morphology of the shelf are all factors controlling the direction of sediment transport.

A model for predicting waves and suspended silt concentration in a shallow lakeel showed the importance of knowledge of the soil-physical properties of the top layer of the bottom. In general, not much is known about this layer and Lake Marken is no exception. The calibrated silt model gave good results for 3 sites in Lake Marken.
