The property of the root system which is most appro-priate to measure depends on the objective of the experiment. Root length should be measured to calculate the inflow rate of water and nutrients

Auger Sampling, Ingrowth Cores and Pinboard Methods, in which they grew. Some of these methods are included in previous reviews (Kolesnikov 1971; B?hm 1979). The methods are either disruptive or totally destructive to the root system being studied and to the immediate environment (Taylor et al. 1991).
