Preliminary Trials of Field Release of Azospirillum Brasilense as Inoculant in Northern Italy,eight of root or aerial parts of the plant, higher concentration of Ca, Mg, Mn, Fe in roots or aerial parts of the plant. The persistence of inoculated Azospirilli in soil or rizosphere seems to be short, i.e. few weeks, and differed for the strain used.

Impact of Mineral Surfaces on Gene Transfer by Transformation in Natural Bacterial Environments, is 10 fold more resistant to DNase I and 100 to 1000 fold more resistant to low temperatures (7°C) than transformation in liquid culture. The results show that persistance of DNA and gene transfer by genetic transformation are facilitated at the surface of mineral grains.

Bacteria with New Pathways for the Degradation of Pollutants and their Fate in Model Ecosystems,concentrations which inhibit their degradation by indigenous microorganisms. The bacterial strains were shown to survive within a model aerobic sludge ecosystem and were able to degrade substituted benzoates that were present in ordinarily inhibitory combinations.

Strategy for Monitoring Pea-Nodulating Rhizobia without in Vitro Gene Manipulation,tion assays. Rhizobia isolated from sampled root nodules of pea plants grown in the test plot will be screened for the following properties: pattern of antibiotic resistance, presence of hup-specific DNA, UV-inducible bactericidal agent, plasmid pattern.

An Overview of Insect Baculovirus Ecology as a Background to Field Release of a Genetically Manipulther research employing a virus belonging to this group which has been genomically labelled with a non-coding synthetic oligonucleotide sequence. Such a marker would permit an unique BV population to be traced through the environment in space and time.
