Linearly Viscoelastic Fluids,d depend on the . the fluid has been subjected to. All real fluids are really viscoelastic because the pressure . is always a function of the volumetric strain. But if we limit the discussion to incompressible fluid models, we may distinguish between viscoelastic models and purely viscous models.

Advanced Fluid Models, and in particular steady viscometric flows, and are also used for unsteady flows of purely viscous fluids. However, a main objection to these models is that they do not reflect normal stress differences in shear flows.

Classification of Fluids,pendent on the temperature and the forces that the body is subjected to. A body of liquid matter, called a ., has a definite volume, but not a definite form. A liquid in a container is formed by the container but does not necessarily fill it. A body of gaseous matter, called a ., fills any container it is poured into.

Flow Phenomena,nd non-Newtonian fluids. In the figures to follow the Newtonian fluid is indicated with an “N” and the non-Newtonian fluid is marked with “nN”. These examples and some others are discussed in greater details in the book “Dynamics of Polymeric Liquids”, vol 1. Fluid Mechanics, by Bird, Armstrong and Hassager [3].
