IGF-1 and Retinopathye neovascular phase of ROP and diabetic retinopathy, the visual outcomes after treatment are often poor. Preventive therapy is required and will likely come from a better understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease.

Recent investigations have examined the potential role of PKC inhibitors in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy. Oxygen-Independent Angiogenic Stimulie growth factor (IGF-1) hormone axes all appear to be important risk factors in the pathogenesis of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and inducers of preretinal neovascularization in the immature retinae. Further advances in the prevention of ROP may require interventions directed at these oxygen-independent angiogenic stimuli.

Growth Factor Synergy in Angiogenesischanisms of these phenomena are discussed. Anti-angiogenic strategies for cancer and retinopathies accounting for growth factor interactions are delineated with emphasis on combination therapy and targeting master regulators, such as HIF-1α and protein kinase CK2.
