Resistance Spot Welding of Coated Advanced High-Strength Steels, a “sacrificial anode”. This technique is known as cathodic protection which provides for continued protection of the steel even if some of the zinc is scratched off the surface. The most common approaches to applying zinc to the surface of steels are known has hot dipping and electro galvanizing.
