描述.This monograph, co-authored by three longtime collaborators, aims to promote the interdisciplinary field of mathematical biology by providing accessible new approaches to study natural systems. As there is currently scarce literature on the applications of mathematical modelling for biology research, this book presents a new way of studying interactions at the level of populations, societies, ecosystems, and biomes through open-sourced modeling platforms. It offers an interdisciplinary approach to analyzing natural phenomena—for example, by showing how master equations developed to describe electrical circuits can also describe biological systems mathematically. Ultimately it promotes a method of study based on modelling and mathematical principles, facilitating collaboration between mathematicians, biologists, engineers, and other researchers to enrich knowledge of the world’s ecosystems..

Understanding Ecosystem Stability and Resilience Through Mathematical Modeling, ling) could provide new insights into current biological problems. Second, we map out the central theme of this monograph and the logical connections among the following chapters with each other. We believe that one of the central and most important issues of how society can survive in our fast-chan

The Importance of Life History and Population Interactions in Population Growth,nd evolution have remained a hot topic since Lotka and Volterra’s classical works. However, understanding how these population interactions are interacting with each other has remained elusive. We tested the hypothesis of Gurevitch that predation will stabilize an ecosystem, because it should decrea

Forest Fires: Fire Management and the Power Law, topic, there are many controversial issues in the field. Forest fires are commonly considered best examples for a scale-free, power-law distribution. We developed a model of a simple ecosystem that questions this and other well-established understandings. We show that in fact forest fires are not s

Material Flow, Task Partition, and Self-Organization in Wasp Societies,s. Using both top-down and bottom-up modeling techniques, we show here how effective a simple regulatory mechanism (we name it “common stomach regulation”) can be in sustaining the stability of the system in these societies. Wasp societies are resilient to external perturbations and they quickly adj

Ants and Bees: Common Stomach Regulation Provide Stability for Societies,e concept of the common stomach and applied this new concept to describe task allocation mechanisms for . ants and honeybees. In these systems, the in- and outflow of the essential materials are regulated by the workforce, and the workforce itself is regulated by the saturation of the materials in t
