Analysis of the Radiation Potential of the Decommissioned Nuclear Submarines and Reactor UnitsBy the beginning of 2002, 191 Russian Nuclear Submarines (NSs) were decommissioned. Part of them are stored afloat with/without fuel; other NSs are partly utilized and stored afloat in three-compartment units. The number and the actual status of the decommissioned Russian NSs are demonstrated in (.).

Experience of International Cooperation and Unresolved Issues of Utilizing Nuclear Submarines and Nullowing 22 years 25 NSs including 20 strategic missile NSs that makes up 90% of all already utilized NSs owned by the Pacific Navy were utilized. Because of this about 1/3 of the decommissioned Pacific NSs no longer constitute nuclear, radiation or environmental threat.

System Analysis of Environmental Risks: Basic Problems and Methods of Solutionused on radiation risks. Almost no consideration is given to other hazards coming from the concerned or nearby facilities despite the fact that those threats can exceed by many times the radiation danger. Among such hazards chemical risks and also indirect threats, such as: ecological, psychological, at al. should be mentioned first.
