To make sense of these complicated processes, it is desirable to know the basics of modern oscillation theory.

Natural oscillations in systems with many degrees of freedom. Normal oscillationsnlinear systems this is not necessarily so. For continuous systems having an infinitely large number of degrees of freedom the number of normal oscillations is infinite, but in the case of bounded systems it is denumerable.

Examples of natural oscillations in systems with one degree of freedomddition, oscillations executed in systems with slowly time-varying parameters we call natural too. In principle, such systems contain energy sources but these sources are not responsible for the excitation of oscillations.
