描述The main subject of this book is the interaction betweendiggings created by porcupines when consuming geophytes, and theirinfluences on annual and perennial vegetation in a desert biome. Theaccumulation of run-off water in diggings and depressions made byanimals increases the carrying capacity of these microhabitats in thedesert biome. .The accumulation of run-off water does not only benefit the naturalvegetation; a system of human-made depressions can be evolved toincrease the catchment of the run-off water that is typical to manydesert habitats, and can lead to run-off agriculture in such areas..This book will be of interest to anyone working in the fields ofdevelopment of deserts from the ecological point of view, waterresources, soil protection and erosion, plant ecophysiology andsettlement, and agronomy. Diggings and Consumption of Subterranean Plant Organs,Negev Desert. These porcupines are nocturnal and vegetarian. The adult is about 30 cm high and 70 cm long and weighs between 12 and 18 kg. The spines on its back are 30 cm long. They live in caves that they dig in mountain areas. Their life span is 12 to 20 years and the female produces two to three offspring twice a year (Dor, 1975).

Effects of Human Made Disturbances and Agriculture on Flood and Runoff Water in the Negev,by newly disturbed loose soil, new micro topography of the soil surface structure is created (White and Picket, 1985; Fletcher and Martin, 1948). This new soil surface does not have the biological soil crust structure and is completely different.
