Ion Exchange in the Nuclear IndustryIon exchange is used in nearly every part of the nuclear fuel cycle — from the purification of uranium from its ore to the final recovery of uranium and transmutation products. Ion exchange also plays a valuable role in the management of nuclear wastes generated in the fuel cycle.

Biological Separations Using Latex-Based Pellicular Resinsin and the mobile phase. The result is broader peaks, poor resolution and lower recovery. In addition large molecules can be excluded or trapped by the pores, limiting the ability to separate large protein and DNA Fragments.

Recent Advances in Inorganic Ion Exchangersecially to zeolites. The synthesis of new materials with cation and/or anion exchange capabilities are described and specific examples of analytical and industrial importance cited. Advances in the more well established exchangers (eg zeolites, hydrous oxides, and phosphates) are considered.

New Cross-Linked Layered Tin Phosphate Exchangersnto α-tin phosphate. The materials have free heights of 6.7 and 7.6 ? and surface areas of 198- and 219 m. g.. There is some saturation of potential exchange sites by the chromia pillars. Nevertheless, cation exchange capacities for Co., Ni., Cu., and Pr. are still relatively high. They are promising as selective ion exchangers.
