描述These volumes contain the invited and contributed talks of the first general Conference of the Condensed Matter Division of the European Physical Society, which took place at the campus of the University of Antwerpen (Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen) from April 9 till 11, 1980. The invited talks give a broad perspective of the current state in Europe of research in condensed matter physics. New developments and advances in experiments as well as theory are reported for 28 topics. Some of these developments, such as the recent stabilization of mono-atomic hydrogen, with the challenging prospect of Bose condensation, can be considered as major break- throughs in condensed matter physics. Of the 65 invited lecturers, 54 have submitted a manuscript. The remaining talks are published as abstracts. The contents of this first volume consists of 9 plenary papers. Among the topics treated in these papers are: - electronic structure computations of iron the density functional theory hydrogen in amorphous Si topologically disordered materials nuclear antiferromagnetism stabilization of mono-atomic hydrogen gas covalent and metallic glasses nonlinear excitations in ferroelectrics.

Electronic Transport in Intermediate Valence Compoundss treated within the alloy analog approximation, using the CPA to solve the alloy problem. The static conductivity and other transport quantities are then calculated within the CPA theory of electronic transport.

Deviations from Matthiessen’s Rule Due to Surface Scattering: Aluminiumcm. The temperature dependence of this DMR is consistent with a T.-dependence below 20 K, and we estimate the coefficient of T to be of the order of 10.ρ.ΩcmK.. Sample dependent anomalies in this temperature dependence considerably complicate an estimate of the size effect below 4 K.

Electronic Structure and Magnetic Properties of the TiFexCo1-X Systemelectron interaction via the molecular field. The results show that the antistructure atoms for nearly ordered states can carry a local moment and could be the elements which determine ferromagnetism in the system.

On the Homomorphic Cluster CPAr. Consequently, even if HCPA satisfies points (i) to (iii) and even if it gives the correct dilute limit for purely off-diagonal disorder, it is to be rejected as a method to study systems with non negligible diagonal disorder.

Metallurgical Effects on Magnetic Properties of the Alloy 15.7 at. % Fe-Auf a central doublet spectrum for temperatures above 40 K. Aging of the sample at 22°C or plastic deformation result in changes of the transition temperatures, and plastic deformation drastically reduces the relative amount of the mictomagnetic phase in the sample.
