Fast shoot responses to root treatment. Are hormones involved?A in the shoot of PEG-treated plants and the decrease in cytokinin in the shoots of cooled plants correlated with the cessation of shoot extension in stressed plants. Possible mechanisms of fast signal transfer from roots to shoots are discussed.

Some aspects of endodermis and cortex structure in , roots tertiary (polysaccharide) cell wall. The presence of .-thickenings on the anticlinal walls in the cells of the inner cortical layer (adjacent to the endodermis) was noted. The possible functional roles of these features in . roots are discussed in the paper.

Calcium channels in the plasma membrane of root cells: Their roles in mineral nutrition and cell signctions of Ca. channels in the plasma membrane of root cells are reviewed. Acclimation to low temperatures is given as an example to illustrate how kinetic and permeation models can be used to understand the physiology of Ca. channels and to predict Ca. fluxes under physiological conditions.

IAA and ZR content in leek (, L.), as influenced by P nutrition and arbuscular mycorrhizae, in relatlants at 96 . P. Mycorrhizae and P increased IAA at substantially similar values, while P increased ZR much more than mycorrhizae did. These results are discussed in relation to root architecture modifications induced by the AM fungus.
