Collisions with Moleculesy of exciting degrees of freedom associated with the motion of the nuclei in the molecule. In this chapter we consider developments of both collision theory and .-matrix theory which enable these additional aspects of collision processes to be accurately treated.

Multichannel Collision Theoryly concerned in this chapter with low-energy elastic scattering and excitation processes. However, we will show in Chap. 6 that the theory and methods developed in this chapter are the basis of .-matrix methods which enable accurate excitation and ionization processes to be calculated at intermediate energies.
