Dynamical Mean Field Theory,nuously. In this way the dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) approaches actual three-dimensional systems from the infinite-dimensional limit. The DMFT has achieved remarkable success in understanding those many-body effects which come from strong local correlations. This chapter explains the DMFT starting with the background of its development.

The discussion in this chapter is rather technical, but is most useful in understanding physical concepts including the dynamical mean field theory to be explained in the next chapter.
