Identity-by-Descent and Coancestry Coefficient,itrarily complicated pedigrees. Two software packages are used to calculate the kinship matrix of a pedigree: (1) kinship2 in R and (2) PROC INBREED in SAS. Numerous examples are given to demonstrate the tabular method.

Concept and Theory of Selection,in each category, there are three selection modes: (1) directional selection, (2) stabilizing selection and (3) disruptive selection. Breeders’ equation is introduced and several alternative forms of the breeders’ equation are presented. Finally, the chapter shows the change of genetic variance due to selection (Bulmer effect).

Methods of Multiple Trait Selection,ired gain index selection. Multistage index selection is presented in two forms: (1) Cunningham’s multistage index selection and (2) Xu and Muir’s multistage index selection, where indices of different stages are correlated in the former but independent in the latter.
