The Region Connection Calculus, papers written on RCC itself. In this chapter we give a detailed introduction to the Region Connection Calculus and especially to RCC-8 which is the central topic of this book. A more detailed overview of the work on the Region Connection Calculus can be found in [28].

Empirical Evaluation of Reasoning with RCC-8,plete reasoning problem by reducing the search space considerably (see Table 6.1). Nevertheless, the search space is still exponential in the size of the problem instance and it cannot be expected that it is possible to solve large instances in reasonable time.
