Dead, But Not Gone: Mother and Othermother in Holly Black and Ted Naifeh’s ,tures, but also by her (presumably) dead mother. Examining the intertwined narrative properties of images and text, this chapter argues that this uncanny gothic tale puts a socially relevant postfeminist spin on the dynamics of the mother-stepmother-daughter constellation and the performance of gender roles in contemporary culture.
