The Politics of Compassion,the state should inculcate a spirit of compassion in the politically oppressed is in itself, I will suggest, morally suspect. To this extent, Nussbaum is wrong to marry her insights about the political significance of the emotions to a commitment to Rawlsian political liberalism.
